Week 4: July 20th–July 24th

We have somehow already reached the 4th week of sailing club!!!

The wind has kept us on our toes, and although the wildfire smoke has made a few appearances, it hasn’t stopped the fun or slowed our sailors down! Through it all, the energy has stayed high, and we’ve loved watching everyone’s confidence and skills continue to grow. We couldn’t be prouder of the progress our sailors have been making both on and off the water.

Tuesday Movie Night

As is routine by now, Movie Night starts at 6:30 and ends around 8:30. Come down to the club and bring a cup for juice and some extra change for candy that will be sold! It’s 2$ to get in!

There will be a second movie for those 13 or older starting after 8:30, it’s an additional 2$. The movie will either be super scary or super hilarious, so make sure you’re ready for either!!

Wednesday Fun Day & Pizza Lunch

Get ready for some holiday fun in the middle of summer because this week’s Fun Day theme is Christmas! Just because we don’t exactly have snow, doesn’t mean we can’t bring our holiday spirit to the club! Sailors are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite holiday attire!

In the morning sailors will participate in a bunch of different holiday-themed games and activities on land and on the water.

As always, Pizza Lunch will follow the festivities. Orders will be taken during morning attendance, with pepperoni, cheese, veggie, and Hawaiian pizzas available, along with a gluten-free option if needed. Club will end at 1:00pm!

Friday Dance

Yippee-ki-yay y’all, it’s time to polish up those old cowboy boots and get your saddles ready because this week’s dance is Country Themed! Come dressed up in your best western themed outfits.

Dance starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. Entry is $2, and snacks will be on sale (pop, candy, freezies). The best dressed country folks get a prize!

REGATTA UPDATES

This week our senior race team went to Steerers Regatta at PCYC on Thursday and Friday and then Four Sisters Regatta over the weekend. On Thursday they dealt with terrible air quality from the wildfires so they couldn’t sail safely, however they were able to get in two races on Friday. Saturday started with a tornado warning and a lot of sitting around hiding out the rain. Luckily, Sunday they were able to get in two races! Our sailors did a great job dealing with the weather and completing their races. We saw a great demonstration of the skills they have been learning at the club and we couldn’t be prouder!

SATURDAY NIGHT GALA

This Saturday night is the bi-annual SLSC Non-Gala-Gala! It’s parents night out at the Sailing Club this Saturday! While your kids have been living it up at the dance on Friday night, it’s your turn to have some fun!!!!!!! Parents, bring your friends but not your kids! The Gala will run from 7pm-late, with both silent and live auctions at 8pm. Dancing is to follow of course, featuring some live music from The Johnson Street Band with Kolya Salter! Wine, beer and snacks will also be served.

We’re only able to host this event and run the club with the help of our generous donors. It’s going to be a super fun night and we hope to see you there!

We’re looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow,

-Jake
