Week 7: August 10th-14th
Sorry for the late newsletter, don’t worry, week 8 will be posted on time! We are midway through Week 7! It’s true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun. We can’t believe we’re already this far into the summer! Last week we had very little wind, which made for some interesting days on the water and lots of dumping and swimming! Hopefully everyone has been practicing their wind dance, because we’re going to need it this week! We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a good breeze so we can get lots of sailing in and make the most of our time on the water. We have lots of fun planned for another great week at the club, and we can’t wait to see everyone!
Cork
This week we sent off 5 of our senior Race Team sailors and one of our instructors to compete at Cork in Kingston! Cork is a big regatta with lots of sailors from different clubs, so it’ll be a great chance for them to get some more racing experience and see what a bigger regatta is all about!
They’ll be there for the next 5 days racing and having lots of fun along the way. This is the first time for all of them to have sailed in a regatta this big! They have all been putting in lots of work the past weeks to prepare for this week of races! Hopefully they get some good wind for some great races. Everyone make sure to wish them good luck! We will be cheering them on from the club and with updates from Shannon their Race Coach, who has gone with them. Can’t wait to hear how it all goes, and we will see them back at the club next Monday! Thank you to all the parents who are helping out with the regatta, we couldn’t do it without you!
Tuesday Movie Night
Come on down to the sailing club for 6:30 to catch the start of movie night! Our backshed has 2 great movies lined up! Its 2$ to get in, bring a cup for juice, and some extra change for the candy that will be sold! Pickup is around 8:30!
There is also a second movie for those 13 and older starting around 8:45-9:00. It’s another 2$, and is typically a horror movie, so get ready to be scared!
Wednesday Fun Day
This week is Sports Day!!!
Sports Day this week, everyone come dressed in your favorite sport attire or as your favorite athlete. All the instructors will be dressed up as well! Questions about what this funday entails? Don’t worry, here’s a quick run down: think Olympics but with a twist! All sailors will be divided into teams to compete in several awesome events. Shoe Golf in the morning, and then we head off onto the water and play lots of sports themed games like: basketball, weightlifting (pulling up an anchor), and a couple other fun activities! All the boats participate and the winning boat gets a prize at the end of the day!
Also, it is Pizza lunch. Since it is a fun day all the kids will get pizza after they get off the water. During flag raising, one of the instructors will come around and ask the kids for what 2 slices of pizza they want. The options are: pepperoni, cheese, Hawaiian, or vegetarian. Usually pickup is at 12:30, but on Wednesday pickup is at 1pm!
Friday Dance
This Friday is the Toga dance! Get ready to channel your inner Greek god or goddess! For Toga Dance, come dressed in your best toga-inspired outfit. Whether you’re rocking a classic bed sheet, going completely over-the-top with accessories, or creating something totally ridiculous, the more creative the better! Get ready to bust a move on the dance floor along with the best costume will take home a prize!
Reminder: The dance starts at 7 and ends at 9, it’s 2$ to get in and make sure to bring some extra change for candy, pop & freezies that will be sold. Can’t wait to see you all there!
Sunday Afts
Sunday afternoon races are still on! The first gun will go off at 1:30, and depending on the wind, we’re hoping to get in around 4 races. Bring your own sailboat or grab one of ours and join in on the fun! Whether you’re a sailor outside of club, or just looking to get out on the water and give it a shot, everyone is welcome! And, of course, there’s a pretty big trophy up for grabs! So come out, get racing, and see if you can take home the trophy. We’d love to see you out on the water!
Reminders:
This week is looking a little cooler, but we still have some hot days coming up! Make sure to bring lots of water, sunscreen, and some snacks for the day. A hat and an extra change of clothes are also a good idea, especially if you end up getting a little wet out on the water!
Don’t forget your lifejacket as well. If you don’t have one, no problem, we have plenty at the club that you can use for the day. We also recommend bringing water shoes to wear in the sailboat, it is not mandatory, so don’t worry if you didn’t bring any. We’re looking forward to another fun week at the club and can’t wait to get started!
