Four Sisters Regatta – PCYC

Eight SLSC sailors participated in Port Credit’s Four Sisters Regatta on the weekend of July 18-19.  This Regatta, sailed back to back with the Steerers Regatta,  is the largest gathering of dinghy sailors in the province other than CORK and this year the numbers were north of 400 sailors…a remarkable event for that alone.  Being able to pull off back to back mega regattas is a testament to the organizational and logistical talents and hard work of the PCYC team.

For a number of our sailors this was their first big regatta of the season… and big is somewhat of a understatement.  It is really big. For our sailors, some of the rust was evident – some brilliant racing and some inconsistent racing – all in the 54 boat strong 420 spin fleet.

For Keira and Michelle, this was their first major regatta together in the 420 spin fleet.  Their results improved consistently as the Regatta progressed and they were well satisfied with their Sunday results where they were flirting with the mid fleet group.  Ultimately, they enjoyed the fun of sailing in such a big fleet once they overcame the intimidation factor.

For Erik and Ryan, they had a very impressive 5th place finish in one race and really good legs in some others, ultimately finishing mid fleet in the overall standings.  A nice result for a new team.

For Owen and Sean, a truly great result was marred by a course confusion in race 2 and a poor finish in the last race, but generally some brilliant sailing including a second place finish in race 3, part of a nice run of races from 2 to 5:  5th in the 2nd race (although disqualified by virtue of the course confusion), 2nd in race 3, 8th in race 4 and 13th in race 5.  Owen and Sean are sailing well together and would have been well into the top ten had it not been for their ‘set of unfortunate incidents.’  As it was,  a solid 16th place out of 54 boats overall.

Amy and Kate lost out on the same ‘course confusion’ as the boys and ended up losing a first place finish in Race 2, but they sailed consistently and ended up with a third place final standing…and a blue PCYC flag in recognition of their finish was presented at the Mid Ontario Regatta by Four Sister’s Regatta chair Mark Searle as a result of a scoring glitch that had them out of the medals at the time of the actual medal presentations in Port Credit.  A nice gesture by Mark and nice for the girls to be presented with their prize in front of the ‘home crowd.’

This was a good first regatta of the season for the full race team and a prep for the Mid Ontario Regatta.
