August 6-8, 2008 – On August the 6th, six members of the SLSC Race Team and coach Claire DesBrisay headed up the road to Lake of Bays for the annual Cottage Club Regatta. The regatta was characterized by typical summer 2008 weather, a day of no wind and a day of rain and stormy weather. Through it all, the red hot team of Owen Thomas and Mich Agnew emerged with the silver medal in the 420 class in a hotly contested battle with a crew from South Muskoka Sailing Club, coached by ex-SLSC instructor Sam Benson. Erik Nyhuus and Sean Clynch finished the regatta in 7th and Emma Riegel and Jackie Callaghan were 9th.
The Cottage Club Regatta has racers billeted at cottages on the lake and a dinner served for all participants at the clubhouse on the Saturday night, followed by games and a dance (where Sean Clynch and the rest of the team showed off their dancing skills honed by years of SLSC dance training).
Kudos to the junior racers for a successful regatta and to Owen Thomas and Mich Agnew for bringing home the hardware!
