Week 5: July 28th–August 1st
We’re officially in the second half of the summer now, and week 5 is looking packed with fun, racing practice, and exciting events!!! This is a busy week at club followed by an awesome weekend packed with things to do, so everyone get ready for all the awesome things coming this week!
Tuesday Movie Night
Movie night is happening as per usual! It starts at 6:30 and ends around 8:30! It’s 2$ to get in! Come to the club and make sure to bring a cup for juice, and some extra change for candy that is being sold by our backshed!
There will also be a second movie for those 13 or older starting after 8:30, it’s an additional 2$. The movie will either be super scary or super hilarious, so make sure you’re ready for either!!
Fun Day
This week’s fun day is Halloween themed!! I know Halloween comes before Christmas, but not at SLSC! We’re going backwards! Dress up in your wildest costumes! Ghosts, pirates, sea monsters, animals, anything goes! (As long as you can still sail in it) Expect Halloween themed games, challenges and a few tricks (and treats) along the way! All boats will be competing for a super cool prize, so bring your competitive spirit!
Friday Dance
This Friday is the gender switch dance! What that means is you can come dressed up as any gender you would like! Whether that means wearing dresses or suits, or anything in between, we expect you to go all out!! The best dressed will win a prize. However the catch is, you must be dancing in order to be considered for this prize!!!
Thank you!
We want to take a moment to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped out at the Mid Ontario Regatta this past weekend. Running a regatta like that takes an entire community – instructors, parent volunteers & billet hosts, our board members, our race committee, and everyone else that helped behind the scenes to make the regatta successful. Despite a few mishaps with our marks, we thank everyone who helped make up the course. As well as everyone that was involved in feeding all the sailors on and off the water, we really appreciate you. Everyone’s energy and patience through the long days made everything a lot smoother, and made it a successful weekend overall.
Also a shoutout to our sailors Braden, Scarlett, Vivian, Alden, Hudson & Lizzo for competing in the regatta. Although there was a couple boat issues, I’m proud of them for persevering and finishing the regatta. And finally a special congrats to Braden and Scarlett for being the top SLSC boat in the 420 fleet!!!
Looking Ahead!
We’ve got a lot of fun events in the itinerary for this Civic holiday weekend, which in my opinion is one of the best weekends of the entire summer!! So lets get into it:
-Civic Regatta-
On Saturday we will be hosting the annual Civic Regatta here at Sturgeon. Civic is a regatta that we put on for our sailors at club in each and every level, and as well for members of the SLSC and Sturgeon communities.
SLSC boats will be offered to the community on a first-come-first-served basis, prioritizing our junior club members. We will try to find you a boat to sail, but if all is taken up by our sailors, we encourage you to bring your own boat if you have one!
There will be two separate courses, one for the younger sailors and smaller boats, and one for the older sailors + a handicapped fleet. All the information you will need is posted in our Civic Notice of Race, which will be linked below.

Races are on Saturday, and Prizegiving is on Sunday! If you won a trophy at Civic last year please bring trophies back to the club this week or at prizegiving so that we can present them to the winners this year. We don’t want to have to track them all down, but we will if necessary so please bring them back to the club!!
Don’t Forget!
It’s hot this week, with a chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday, so we ask that sailors are sun safe and
As always, please make sure sailors come with:
- Lots of water
- Lifejacket
- Close-toed shoes
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- Towel
- Snacks
- Rain gear (just in case!)
Thank you, and we’re excited for the week ahead!!
