SLSC 2025 – Chapter 4

Week 4: July 21st–July 25th

Somehow… we’re already at the halfway point. Week 4 out of 8. Which feels impossible, because it honestly feels like summer just started yesterday. But here we are—halfway through and still going full speed ahead.

The wind’s been great, the sun has been very present, and the energy has been through the roof. As we’ve been watching the sailors learn and grow we couldn’t be happier with the progress they’ve been making! We’ve had so much fun these past weeks, but with four weeks still to go, don’t worry, we’re not slowing down anytime soon. Buckle up for another week of fun!

Tuesday Movie Night

As is routine by now, Movie Night starts at 6:30 and ends around 8:30. Come down to the club and bring a cup for juice and some extra change for candy that will be sold! It’s 2$ to get in!

There will be a second movie for those 13 or older starting after 8:30, it’s an additional 2$. The movie will either be super scary or super hilarious, so make sure you’re ready for either!!

Wednesday Fun Day & Pizza Lunch

This week’s Fun Day theme is a festive one—Christmas in July! We may be in swimsuits instead of sweaters, but we’re bringing the holiday spirit to the docks. Sailors are encouraged to dress up in their best Christmas gear—Santa hats, reindeer antlers, tinsel, and all things jolly. Teams will be competing in holiday-themed challenges both on and off the water. There may not be snow, but that won’t stop us from making the most of a midsummer Christmas.

Of course, Pizza Lunch is happening as usual. Orders taken during morning attendance (pepperoni, cheese, veggie, hawaiian—gluten-free available if needed) and club ends at 1:00 pm so everyone has time to dig in after a morning of holiday fun.

Friday Dance

Yeehaw! It’s time to dust off your cowboy boots and break out the flannel because this week’s dance is Country Themed! Come dressed as your best cowboy, cowgirl, cow… (we’re not picky) and be ready for a night of music, dancing, and possibly a line dance or two.

Dance starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. Entry is $2, and snacks will be on sale (pop, candy, freezies). The best dressed country star gets a prize!

Wetfeet!

This week, we’re saying hello to a new Instructor for the Wetfeet group! Kyla Tremblay is taking over as the Wetfeet coach for the remainder of the summer! We’re super excited to have her with our team, and we can’t wait for all the wetfeet to meet her!  And in terms of our previous super cool and amazing Wetfeet coach Samantha, fear not, she will be returning in 2 weeks time to head up to the CANSail 1 team!

Mid Ontario Regatta

This weekend is the Mid Ontario Regatta! If you see a whole lot of boats on Sturgeon this weekend, don’t be alarmed, grab some binoculars and watch this super fun regatta happen!

If you have sailors in the race, you are welcome to watch from your boat, however you must not interfere with the races at any time. This means, no driving through the race courses, all boats must remain a minimum of 50 meters from the course. If you are just spectating, we ask that you go further. The penalty for failing to comply with this requirement may be disqualification of all boats associated with the offending support personnel. We love the support, but please be mindful of the regattas rules and regulations. Thank you!

Good luck to all our SLSC sailors that will be participating in the Mid Ontario Regatta this weekend!! We’ll be cheering you on!!!

General Safety

Always remember to wear your helmet when you’re biking to the club!

We also ask that drivers be extra cautious going through the turn from golf links to sturgeon point road (or vice versa) as sometimes kids come around that corner fast on their bikes. Always be cautious on the road during morning dropoff and afternoon pickup times!!

Don’t Forget

This week is looking a little cooler (finally), but don’t let that fool you—sunscreen is still a must. Even with clouds, UV rays are sneaky, and we want all our sailors to stay sun-safe.

Later in the week, we might see a bit of rain, so we recommend packing a rain jacket just in case. As long as there’s no thunder or lightning, we’ll still be heading out on the water—just a little soggier than usual.

As always, please make sure sailors come with:

  • Lots of water
  • Lifejacket
  • Close-toed shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Towel
  • Snacks
  • Rain gear (just in case!)

We’re looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow,

Ava
