Week 2: July 7th–July 11th
One week of club down, and we’re onto the next! The first week flew by in a blur of sun, sunscreen, and a good amount of wind, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start to summer. A huge thank you to all the parents, board members, and of course, our incredible sailors for making Week 1 such a success, we loved every second.
Now it’s time to keep that wind in our sails and dive headfirst into Week 2. Let’s make it even better!!

Thank you Kyle Anders for these photos!!
Tuesday Movie Night
So after our first run of Games Night last week, we’ve decided to center the evening back to the regularly scheduled movie programming. No shade to Games Night, but Movie Night was missed a lot more than we realized! So yes that’s right, big screen, an awesome movie, and of course the backshedders selling candy. (Games Night is not going away forever though so stay tuned!)
The movie will start at 6:30pm, and pick-up is around 8:30pm. As always there will be a second movie starting just after 8:30pm for anyone 13 and older.
Everyone is welcome to bring their friends!! It’s 2 dollars for entry, and make sure to bring some extra money for candy!! Bring a reusable cup for juice, and don’t worry, popcorn will be provided!
Wednesday Fun Day & Pizza Lunch!!!
This Wednesday’s Fun Day theme is Balloon Day, but with a magical twist. Bringing back this theme that has somehow gotten lost over the last couple years, sailors are encouraged to dress up in their best Hogwarts attire—robes, scarves, glasses, lightning scars—anything they can find to help add points to their teams!!
Balloon Day involves teams of sailors collecting and popping a variety of balloons, (holding on tightly to the popped balloons is vital for both keeping our lake clean, and retaining points!!) in order to tally up as many points as possible to win a prize for your team!
All of this will be reiterated to sailors on wednesday!
P.S keep your eye out for the golden snitch!
And of course, Pizza Lunch is back again! We’ll be taking orders during morning attendance (cheese, pepperoni, veggie, hawaiian—gluten-free available if needed). Club will end at 1:30pm to give sailors enough time to devour their well-earned slices. Also a big thank you to Chloe Schumacher for ordering and delivering the pizzas to the sailing club for all the hungry sailors.

^ A few dumping day photos from Malcolms film camera!
Friday Dance
This Friday, things are getting TROPICAL. This week the dance is going full island vibes. Think leis, grass skirts, beach shirts, and anything that screams “I’m ready for a sunset luau.”
Dance starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. Entry is $2, and our trusty backshedders will be selling snacks (pop, candy, and freezies) all night long. There will be a prize for the most tropical outfit, so get creative, we want to see your best flamingo fits and vacation dad shirts.
Sunday Afternoons
New this week: Sunday Afternoon Races begin!!
Whether you’re a racing champion, new to sailing or just want an excuse to be on the water a little longer, these races are for everyone. Bring a crew or go solo and race any sailboat you’d like, you can even bring your own! Just be ready for the first gun at 1:30pm. Arrive by 1:00 to rig and prepare!
We’ll run between 1–4 races, depending on wind and timing. At the end of summer, whoever racks up the most wins across all four Sunday Afts takes home the massive, glorious, legendary Sunday Afts Trophy at the final prize giving. So come out and race, even if it’s just to practice sailing, we’d love to have you there!
P.S Sunday Afts is open to everyone, you don’t need to be a sailor registered at the club to come!
Bike Parking
As you may have noticed, we’ve started parking all our bikes on the right side of the driveway upon entry. The reason for this is minimizing the tripping hazards on the hill, and keeping the area around the stairs and bathroom easy to maneuver. So please place your bikes there when you arrive!

Those driving their kids, please make sure there’s enough room for the bikes when dropping your kids off, and stay aware of kids crossing the driveway!
Bike Path
There’s no new updates on the bike path for this week, so we’re still wanting everyone to stick to the road for now. That means staying extra aware and wearing your helmets, please!! Safety > speed, always.
Don’t Forget
The sun is going to keep doing its thing, so we kindly ask that all sailors come prepared:
Bring a refillable water bottle (we have an amazing new water station thanks to the lovely Barbara Allan) where you can refill your water! Bring a lifejacket, close-toed shoes, sunscreen, a hat, a towel and of course some snacks!
We may also be expecting some rain this week, and we will still go sailing in the rain, (as long as it’s not thunderstorming or a torrential downpour) so make sure to bring a rain jacket if needed!
We’re so excited to keep the good vibes going as we head into week 2!
See you tomorrow!
