Instructor Newsletter – 2023

Volume 1

Hello all, and welcome back to your weekly dose of SLSC updates! We are so very excited to welcome back both old and new instructors to create our Summer 2023 Dream Team! Ruby Farr will be overseeing operations as Head Instructor, as well as the CanSail ⅚ coach. Jake Rix and myself (Sinclair Lavallee) will be your CanSail 1 instructors, and I will also be helping Ruby out as Assistant Head Instructor. Parker Marlin and Cooper Wright will be your CanSail 2 instructors. Ava Simpson will be coaching the CanSail 3’s as well as the Junior Race Team. Rowan Rix will be our CanSail 4 and race team coach. Last but not least, Sam Breyfogle will be our WetFeet instructor for the month of July, with Lucas Davenport taking over in August. We have a stellar lineup this year, and I can speak for all of us when we say that we are so excited for this summer, and to see you all again! We have been hard at work the past 2 weeks, ensuring the club is in tip top shape in anticipation for the first week. The first week of programming is always exciting, as people reunite with their “summer” friends and get back into the groove of the sailing club. Just as a reminder, our sailing program runs 8:30am-12:30pm, Monday-Friday, with Race Team practices happening in the afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ruby, Rowan and Ava are very much looking forward to getting the Race Teams ready for lots of winning this summer (hopefully)! The rest of the instructors are looking forward to carrying on the fun-filled vibes of the sailing club that everyone knows and loves.

Looking ahead to the first week of the club, we are excited to get back into hosting all the fun events at the club! Tuesday night is movie night!! Join our senior sailors at 6:30pm for a fun evening of film viewing! The movie costs a dollar, and as always bring some extra change for treats. Sailors over 13 are also invited to join us for a second movie. The second movie costs another dollar, and be sure to bring your nerves of steel, as you will surely be in for a scare… Wednesday is Fun Day! The first fun day is Dumping Day. Dumping Day is a day full of fun activities surrounding capsizing. It’s a great way to get over the initial fears surrounding capsizing early into the summer. Club will end around 1 on Wednesday’s as there is a pizza lunch!! Pizza is included in registration 🙂 Finally, the most anticipated event of every week… Friday is the first dance!!!! The theme is pyjamas, so we hope to see everyone in their most stylish sleepwear. Don’t forget, there is a prize for the best costume, so make sure to go all out! The dance runs from 7pm-9pm on Friday night at the club. Just like movie night, the dance costs a dollar, and remember extra change for treats! We can’t wait to see you all there!

In closing, we can’t express how excited we are for another summer full of friendship, fun, sailing, and memories that will last a lifetime. We are so excited to see everyone on the first day of club (Monday, July 3). Be sure to follow us on Instagram for more updates @slscinsta !! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to give us a call at 705 887 5110, email us at [email protected], or swing by the club anytime to give us a visit.

Only 1 more sleep until we get to welcome you all back!!! Thanks for reading 🙂
