SLSC Newsletter Week 7, 2012

The past few days have been very exciting ones for all of the racers at SLSC! Our CANSail 4 and 5’s were at Stoney Lake on Thursday and Friday racing at the annual Cottage Club regatta.  All of our sailors sailed amazingly well, so much so that SLSC won overall best club! But that’s not all! Madison Kozak and Sara Gilchrist got 1st place in the 420 fleet! Congrats girls!  The CANSail 4 and 5’s weren’t the only SLSC racers competing last week, our Elite Opti Race Squadron competed at the It’s Not Easy Being Green regatta at PCYC last week.  They all sailed amazingly well (especially for their first away regatta)!  Raeha Rix won a special Sportsmanship prize, way to go Raeha!  Congrats to all of our racers, we are so proud of all of you!

A quick heads up to all parents that one of our sailors was diagnosed with strep throat last week, so take note if any of your sailors complain of a sore throat.

Dances and Movie Night

This Tuesday night is movie night!  The first movie starts at 6:30 and is suitable for all ages and the second movie is suitable for kids aged 13 and up.  Each movie is $1 and popcorn and juice will be served. See you there!

This Friday night is the What Not To Wear Dance! Come dressed in your tackiest outfit, a prize will be given to the best (or should I say worst?) dressed.  The dance runs from 7 until 9 and admission is $1. Pop will be sold for $1 and freezies for 25 cents. See you there!

Pizza Lunch and Fun Day

As always this Wednesday is Pizza Lunch! Two slices of pizza, lemonade and an ice cream sandwich are $7.50.  Pick up time is 1pm.

This Wednesday is also our annual Treasure Hunt! Come dressed ready to hunt for treasure!

 Sunday Afternoon Races

This Sunday will be our last edition of the 2012 Sunday afternoon Races Series. Come down to the club at 1:00 with or without a crew.  The races will be sailed without trapeze or spinnaker, so sailors of all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to come out! (Parents too!)

Things to Bring

As always we’re promoting a waste-free sailing club, so we encourage all sailors to bring their own reusable water bottle to club. We have a water cooler up stairs that we will be sure is always full for sailors to fill their water bottles up with. Other things that are important to bring everyday are a PFD, closed toed shoes, a change of clothes, weather appropriate gear (a little rain doesn’t keep us from sailing!), a towel, sunscreen, a hat and a snack.

Happy Sailing!
