SLSC Newsletter Week 6, 2012

SLSC Newsletter Week 6, 2012

Well here we are, Week 6 already! First of all, congratulations everyone on a great Civic Weekend Regatta!  All the sailors raced amazingly!  And a big thank-you to all the volunteers who helped out! This is going to be a busy week at SLSC!

 Sailing Canoe Clinic

This Friday August 10th there will be a Sailing Canoe Clinic. A speaker is bringing some old fashioned sailing canoes to the sailing club for all of the sailors to try out! The clinic starts at 2pm and all sailors are welcome to stay after club for a hot dog lunch and swim before the clinic. We hope that everyone takes this amazing opportunity!

Regattas

This week we are sending two groups of racers of to regattas.  The Elite Opti Race Squadron is heading off to Port Credit for the It’s Not Easy Being Green Regatta. And the Bronze 5s and Silvers are heading out to Stony Lake for the annual Cottage Club regatta. Both groups are leaving Wednesday afternoon.  Good luck SLSC racers!

Dances and Movie Night

This Tuesday night is movie night!  The first movie starts at 6:30 and is suitable for all ages and the second movie is suitable for kids aged 13 and up.  Each movie is $1 and popcorn and juice will be served. See you there!

This Friday night is the Blind Date dance!  Come dressed to impress and ready to see who your mystery date is! The dance runs from 7 until 9 and admission is $1. Pop will be sold for $1 and freezies for 25 cents. See you there!

Pizza Lunch and Fun Day

This Wednesday we will be doing our annual sail to Verulam Beach!  We will leave the club right after flag raising and stay there for lunch and return back to club for a 2pm pick up.  This Wednesday is also Pizza Lunch!  Two slices of pizza, lemonade and an ice cream sandwich are $7.50.  Pizza will be brought to us at Verulam.  You can pay Leslie at registration or bring money Wednesday morning.

Wednesday Night Races

Wednesday night races are for SLSC sailors of all levels! Come down to the club at 6:30 to rig, and we will assign everyone a boat to sail in.  After the races, stay and reward your racing with some smores! Pick up time is 9:00.

 Sunday Afternoon Races

After taking a break the past few Sundays, Sunday afternoon racing is back! This Sunday August 12th come down to the club at 1:00 with or without a crew.  The races will be sailed without trapeze or spinnaker, so sailors of all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to come out! (Parents too!)

Things to Bring

As always we’re promoting a waste-free sailing club, so we encourage all sailors to bring their own reusable water bottle to club. We have a water cooler up stairs that we will be sure is always full for sailors to fill their water bottles up with. Other things that are important to bring everyday are a PFD, closed toed shoes, a change of clothes, weather appropriate gear (a little rain doesn’t keep us from sailing!), a towel, sunscreen, a hat and a snack.

 Happy Sailing!
