SLSC Newsletter Week 4, 2012

Week 4 already! Time really does fly when you’re having a good time!  Week 3 was a very exciting week for our racers! Our Elite Opti Race Squadron was in Port Credit Thursday and Friday for their first regatta! Despite six-foot rollers and blustering winds their spirits stayed high and a good time was had by all! Congrats Opti racers! On Friday the Race Team headed off to Port Credit for the Four Sisters regatta. They were faced with much lighter winds than the Opti Racers but still managed to get a bunch of races in. Congrats Race Team on a great regatta!

Important Reminders for Parents

Hi Parents! Just a few quick reminders!

  •  Please try to not drop your sailors off early for the morning program and other SLSC events. Club starts at 8:30 (Monday morning is fine to be early for registration), Movie Nights and Wednesday Night Races start at 6:30 and Dances start at 7. It is important to not arrive too early since supervision does not start until the above mentioned times.
  • Also please remember that pick up time for the morning program is 12:30
  • Please send your sailors to Sailing Club with refillable water bottles. We have a water cooler upstairs but not enough cups for every sailor.
  • Finally, our lost and found bin is overflowing, if your sailor is missing something come take a look!

Dances and Movie Night

This Tuesday night is movie night!  The first movie starts at 6:30 and is suitable for all ages and the second movie is suitable for kids aged 13 and up.  Each movie is $1 and popcorn and juice will be served. See you there!

Get those creative juices flowing because this Friday night is the ABC Dance (Anything But Clothes). Create an outfit out of anything but clothes! The dance runs from 7 until 9 and admission is $1. Pop will be sold for $1 and freezies for 25 cents. See you there!

Pizza Lunch

As always this Wednesday is Pizza Lunch.  Two slices of pizza, lemonade and an ice cream sandwich are $7.50.  Pizza arrives at 12:30 and pick up is at 1.

Wednesday Night Races

This Wednesday will be the third edition of our Wednesday night racing series.  Come down to the club at 6:30 to rig, and we will assign everyone a boat to sail in.  After the races, stay for a bonfire and reward your racing with some smores!

 Things to Bring

As always we’re promoting a waste-free sailing club, so we encourage all sailors to bring their own reusable water bottle to club. We have a water cooler up stairs that we will be sure is always full for sailors to fill their water bottles up with. Other things that are important to bring everyday are a PFD, closed toed shoes, a change of clothes, weather appropriate gear (a little rain doesn’t keep us from sailing!), a towel, sunscreen, a hat and a snack.

Happy Sailing!
