SLSC Newsletter: Week 8, 2011

It is with great sorrow that we write our final newsletter. This summer has been a blast and the whole instructor team is so happy that we spent it with all of you at this amazing place! This fantastic summer wouldn’t have been possible without you, the kids, and we would like to thank you for that. We would also like to thank all of the parents and volunteers for driving your kids to club, driving your kids to regattas, picking up our pizza, helping out with our regattas, making awesome costumes and so much more! This club thrives on community involvement and we are eternally grateful.

 Prize Giving and AGM

This Friday we will be holding our annual end of summer prize giving.  Come join us this Friday evening at 7 pm at the Sturgeon Point Union Church on the corner of 6th St. and Irene Ave.  Certificates and awards will be presented and the end of summer slideshow you’ve all been waiting for will be revealed!  After the prize giving,  all of the kids can head down to the club for the Sweetheart Dance.  This will be the final dance of the summer and is completely free!  No costumes needed,  just come in whatever you’re wearing.  While the kids are off dancing the night away, anyone who’s interested can stay at the church for the 2011 Annual General Meeting.

Race Week

This week is race week!  A week-long regatta, where each level competes for a trophy and learns some racing tips.  Awards to the top three boats in each category will be given out at Prize Giving.

Pizza Lunch and Movie Night

This Wednesday, unlike the rest of our Wednesdays at SLSC, will be devoted to racing instead of a fun day, but have no fear, pizza lunch is still here!  Two slices of pizza,  lemonade and an ice cream sandwich costs $7.50.  There will also be no Wednesday Night races.

Tuesday Night is movie night!  Two movies will be shown in the Clubhouse:the first suitable for all ages and the second open to 13 year olds and up.  The first movie begins at 6:30 and each movie costs a dollar.  Please bring a reusable cup for juice, popcorn is also served.

Saturday Cleanup

This Saturday we are doing a final cleanup of sailing club and all helping hands are welcome!  Come down at 9am to start packing things away.  A free pizza lunch will be offered to all volunteers.  Hope to see you there!

Things to Bring

As always, we’re promoting a waste-free sailing club, so we encourage all sailors to bring their own reusable water bottle to club. We have a water cooler up stairs that we will be sure is always full for sailors to fill up their water bottles. Other things that are important to bring everyday are a PFD, closed toed shoes, a change of clothes, weather appropriate gear (a little rain doesn’t keep us from sailing!), a towel, sunscreen, a hat and a snack.

Happy Sailing!

Kate & Ellen 🙂
