Season’s Greetings to All and This and That

2008 has been a great year of sailing on Sturgeon highlighted by the introduction of the Mosquito Program, the success of the new Sunday Afternnoon Race Series, the accomplishments of the race team, the leadership of the instructors, the physical changes to the property – a new bathroom, new docks, buried Hydro cable, renovated boat slips – and above all the great memories that continue to be created for our junior sailors of the fun and friends and spirit that makes our club such a perfect place to spend summers.

2008 also marked the end of Madge Barr’s 4 years as Club Commodore – a position that I had hoped she would agree to take on for life.  All of us owe her a huge amount of appreciation for her contributions.  She has devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to make our Club what it is, to insure that it runs smoothly and to preserve its traditions and she has done so quietly, without drawing attention to all of the meriad of things she has done to make all of that happen.

For those of you up at Sturgeon for the holidays, Larry Thomas will once again be coordinating ‘off season training’ for sailors and non sailors of all ages at the Fenelon arena.  The ‘training’ will take the form of pick up hockey for players of all skill levels and skating about (and some pirouetting) for those non hockey players.  For a small contribution to ice time, all can work on their off season fitness.

Check in for updates to be posted on the website as the 2009 sailing season gets closer.  Plans are underway for the 2009 Mid Ontario Championship Regatta and we will report on those plans soon.  The Club has also struck a program committee that will be seeking input on program initiatives for 2009, for which input will be sought.

Here is to a great 2008 for which we have much to be thankful and here is looking forward to a fine 2009 .

Hugh
