SLSC Newsletter Week 8: August 19th, 2013

The final week of Sailing Club is upon us! Its scary to think how fast this summer flew by. We had a fairly quiet seventh week at the club with the Race Team away at CORK. Three boats travelled to Kingston for the four-day regatta. They had a ton of fun competing in heavy winds against sailors from all over North America! Congratulations to all the participants.

PRIZE GIVING, AGM AND THE SWEETHEART’S DANCE
This Friday evening, we will be holding our Prize Giving at 7pm at the Sturgeon Point Union Church. The Church is located at the corner of 6th St. and Irene Ave. Certificates and awards will be given out as well as the unveiling of the end of year slideshow! After the Prize Giving, all the kids can head down to the sailing club to dance the night away! Our final dance of the summer is the Sweetheart Dance. No costumes are needed and admission is free – woohoo! For the parents who are interested, the 2013 SLSC Annual General Meeting will be held at the church after the Prize Giving.

RACE WEEK
We have lots of exciting events and activities in store for the final week of Club! Every sailing level will spend the week racing against their peers. Sailors have the chance to show off all that they have learned this summer in a fun-filled weeklong regatta.

MOVIE NIGHT
This Tuesday, there will be a movie night! The first movie begins at 6:30 followed by the second movie for kids 13 and older at 8:30. Each movie costs a dollar. Popcorn and juice will be served so don’t forget your reusable cup!

TALENT SHOW/BONFIRE
On Wednesday evening the Silvers are organizing the annual Talent Show and Bonfire. For only five dollars, you can enjoy hotdogs, drinks and smores! Come on down to the sailing club at 6:30pm. We are looking forward to seeing all of the sailors’ amazing talents!

PIZZA LUNCH
There will not be a Fun Day this week, as we want to have more racing time on the water! There will still be Pizza Lunch on Wednesday. As usual, you can enjoy two slices of pizza, lemonade and an ice cream sandwich for $7.50.

CLEAN UP DAY
This Saturday will be clean up day! All are welcome to help pack up the sailing club for the winter. The cleaning begins at 9am and all volunteers will receive free pizza!

DON’T FORGET
In promoting a waste-free sailing club, we ask that all sailors bring a reusable water bottle to club. There will be water available to refill your bottle during the day. As always, don’t forget a PFD, closed toed shoes, a change of clothes, weather appropriate gear (we sail rain or shine!), sunscreen, a hat and of course a snack!

On behalf of all of the instructors, we would like to thank everyone who has helped make this summer memorable! Instructing at SLSC is a blast and we love every minute!

Until the next gust,
Keira and Kate 🙂
