SLSC 2018: Chapter 8

Well, we have somehow made It through eight weeks of sailing club only having lost a Pico sail, a couple spin poles, and Sophie’s phone to the lake #WhatAnEnormousSuccess. (Also, if anyone finds my Birks, please let me know.) However, the successes of this summer only make the conclusion all the more bitter. We begin to have nightmares about school, wearing socks (except Matt, he loves socks), and spending time indoors. Sailing Club feels like home for the summer – a place of friendships, learning and a whole lot of…

SLSC 2018: Chapter 7

Cottage Club and CORK Last week, we sent 11 sailors to Stoney Lake Yacht Club to compete in Cottage Club Regatta. Our three Fevas dominated the four-boat fleet. Congratulations to Rowan and Ethan who came away with the gold. The 420 fleet was a much larger – 32 boats — and Ruby and Nixon managed to place fifth! Congratulations to all our racers. Tomorrow morning, Ruby and Nixon are leaving for Kingston, where they will compete in CORK International. Wish them luck! Sunday Afts Despite painfully light conditions, we had…

SLSC 2018: Chapter 6

Civic Holiday Regatta Despite trying conditions – lots of sun, temperatures of 30°C, no wind at the beginning of the day, and over 500° of persistent wind shifts, we managed to get three races off in the 420, handicap, and Laser fleets, two for the Fevas, and one for the Picos. Following their ‘dress-rehearsal’ last weekend at the Mid-Ontario Regatta, Amy and Kate were once again victorious in the 420 fleet at Civic #ReLivingTheGloryDays. In the Feva fleet, Isabella and Trinity won the regatta with two bullets #PowerTeam. David and Biz…

SLSC 2018: Chapter 5

My apologies for the delay in posting the newsletter this week. It was a busy weekend and we have (possibly) an even busier upcoming week, so there is a lot to cover.   Mid-Ontarios This weekend, we hosted the Mid-Ontario Regatta. We had 140 sailors in four different fleets (Laser, Laser Radial, C420, and Feva) come out to sail. In the Feva fleet – the 16 & Under Provincial Championships – Isabella and Trinity placed third. This is an incredible achievement for the girls! Despite windy, shifty, gusty, conditions, the…

SLSC 2018: Chapter 4

Steerers/Four Sisters Last week, we sent our Feva race team to Steerers and our 420 race team to Four Sisters. Both teams had a great time – and in the Feva fleet, Isabella and Trinity managed to take home the bronze medal #ITaughtThemLastYear #JustSaying. The 420 race team battled insane winds today – with the classic 10-foot-high Lake Ontario rollers and torrential rain – it was an achievement to make it out of the harbour.   Tuesday Movie Night As usual, this Tuesday, the silvers will show a wonderful, often…

SLSC 2018: Chapter 3

Sunday Afts: Despite very light conditions today, we managed to get three races off in the laser fleet, and one race for the 420s and Picos. Storey took home the gold in the laser fleet. Our pico fleet was dominated by Suki Salter and her friend Addie. Suki and Addie’s mums – Samantha and Karin – won the 420 fleet #AGoodDayForSalter&Co. We are now entering a brief Sunday afts hiatus – our third installment will take place August 12th.   Tuesday Movie Night Coming soon to theatres! This Tuesday night,…
