SLSC 2017: Chapter 3

New Additions to the Staff

This week, we are welcoming Cameron Riegel back as an instructor! When he showed up last Wednesday for balloon day, we all realized just how much we missed having him around the club; to avoid enduring another Cameron-less week of club, we offered him gave him no other option but to take a job starting this Monday. We couldn’t be happier to have him back.

Regatta: Laser Masters, Canadians, and Steerers

This weekend, SLSC hosted the Ontario Laser Masters. We’d like to thank Richard Roberts, who sailed but also managed to take the lead on Race Committee decisions, Clare Prendergast, who arranged all the billeting, as well as all of the billets, meal makers, harbour masters, scorers, and finish boaters, who combine their efforts to put on such a great regatta. Congratulations to Ray Davies for taking home the gold. Full results and photos will be posted on the website shortly.

Meanwhile, in Dorval, Quebec, our resident sailing superstars, Maija and Margaret (#M&MPleaseSponsorThem #OrEminem?) raced the Canadian C420 championships. They placed 12th in a fleet of 39 boats, were the second Canadian team, and first female Canadian team. They will be signing autographs tomorrow after club #NoPicturesPlease.

Finally, we wish our 14 Feva Race Team sailors heading to Steerers Regatta at PCYC on Wednesday good luck!

Afternoon Race Program

Will be back on this week following a weeklong Boys and Girls club interlude!

Tuesday Night: Fun Night

This Tuesday, the Silvers have decided to stray from the traditional double feature, opting instead for a water-themed fun night. Come down to the club for 6:00 with a bathing suit, life jacket, clothing/shoes you are prepared to get wet, and money for entry, candy, pop, and freezies #HealthyChoice.

Wednesday Fun Day: Treasure Hunt

Every year, we send all of our sailors off on a quest to uncover a short sentence or phrase hidden by the instructors. We start each boat off with a single cryptic clue, which will (hopefully) send them sailing along to various points on the lake, where they will unearth all the necessary letters. The first boat to decode the phrase wins the fun day and is rewarded with club-wide fame, glory, life-long bragging rights and possibly an edible prize.

Club will end at 1, following a mouth-watering pizza lunch brought to you by the wonderful Christina Hall.

Friday Night Dance: Unknown

Get ready to boogie, because this Friday night is the dance theme that you’ve all been waiting for! Show up to club at 7:00 dressed in your finest [insert dance theme here] costume. Best costume, coupled with a lot of (not necessarily the best) dance moves will receive a prize. Entry costs $1 and assorted sugar-filled snacks and drinks will be sold. (The Silvers have yet to announce the dance theme for this week, but stay tuned for more info).

Final Thoughts

Please remember to bring raincoats and other foul weather gear to club on colder days! Your instructors are all cruel and heartless, and will make you sail even if it’s cold and rainy.

Lots of love,

Adele
