Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club Civic Regatta Saturday August 4th, 2012 The 2012 Civic long weekend is upon us and with it comes the annual Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club regatta. The schedule of events goes as follows: Saturday August 4th is the main event. A large course will be set for 420s, Picos, Bytes, Lasers and Laser Radials, and the Handicap class. Well, here goes…SLSC is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Laser masters sailors again in the summer of ’12. On July 28-29, masters sailors (age 35 to 85) from around the province (and from elsewhere in Canada and, we are advised, from as far away as Northern more Sharpen your blades, tape up your sticks and say a little prayer for Me (Larry Thomas); Winter cross training on ice is a go at the Fenelon arena! For those of you who haven’t participated before, we use 3/4′s of the rink for shinny and 1/4 for pirouettes, little ones and UN observers. On the shinny rink we play 5 minute periods split between younger skaters (roughly 12 and under – birth certificates required) and the rest of the motley more This Saturday, it is ‘put the club to bed day’… A day of helping to put our club away so that it is in fine shape to open up again next June…We will have snacks and libations for all the worker bees…and many hands will make light work. Prize giving begins at 7 pm this Friday at the Church and the Club’s AGM will follow immediately after prizegiving. All are welcome. Come celebrate the kids’ accomplishments and a great year! On the evening of July 10, 2010, SLSC will celebrate the 54th season of Sailing on Sturgeon Lake with a fundraising cocktail and beach party at the Swannanoa boathouse and out on the sandbar. A suggested donation of $40.00 per person will get you a tax receipt and the gratitude of many young sailors as we look to raise some money to expand our fledgling fleet of Optimist dinghies. Our newest addition to the Optimist fleet, named in more I am thrilled to report that, the day after Toronto won the bid for the Pan Am Games, SLSC has won its bid to play host to the 2010 National Laser Masters Championships. On Saturday November 7, the North American Laser Class Association approved SLSC’s bid to hold the National Championships (a three day regatta) from Friday July 23 to Sunday July 25.
