The Mid Ontario Champioship Regatta (known by Ontario sailors as the ‘MIDS’) is a well loved regatta that has built up a great deal of goodwill over the years. It is a highlight of the Ontario dinghy regatta scene and, as it is only run every other year, it is much anticipated by the sailing community.
This year’s event will have added prestige. In addition to being a District III Laser Gold Cup Series event and an Ontario Sailing Grand Prix Series event, the MIDS has now been named the 2011 Club 420 Assn Canadian National Championship. The Club 420 Association is the North American class association for the Club 420 and our regatta will be the first Canadian national championship. We will be seeking to attract Canadian 420 sailors to the event from near and far, all vying for the honour of being forever known as the first Canadian class champions.
Because this is a Natinal Championship for the c420 sailors, the regatta for them will begin in the afternoon of Friday August 5, 2011 and then carry through the weekend. Racing for the Lasers and Radials will start on the Saturday (August 6) as usual. We will, accordingly, be providing the c420 sailors and their coaches and chaperones with a communal dinner on the Friday night.
We will endeavour to provide all of the sailors who will be attending a great Sturgeon experience and look forward to hosting with our usual hospitality. Thanks to all who have endorsed this decision and offerred their help. It will be another community effort in the great tradition of our Club and its many volunteers.
