CYA National Sailing Championships – August 9-11:
The CYA National championships were held in Hamilton last weekend and the Amy DesBrisay and Kate Thomas (‘8008135’) team were on fire! Sailing in light to moderate winds, they sailed to 3 first place finishes and one third place finish on the last day of racing. The Amy/Kate combination ended up in 2nd overall in the Regatta in a 420 fleet of 28 boats, taking home a CYA Silver Medal and the award for top female team. Sam Nyhuus and Grady Clynch placed a very credible 5th, as Sam abandoned the basketball court for his cameo appearance on the race course in 2007…proving that he had not lost his magic.
The results for the Claire DesBrisay/Emily Fleck (“not our kind of wind”) and the Kevin Robson/Ellen Lourie teams were a little disappointing, but they both preserved their pride by finishing in the top half of a very competitive fleet. A great Regatta in which light wind boat speed and tactics were at a premium. The SLSC pink racing shirts are starting to get noticed on the podium!
