Sarnia in the Heat!

July 5 & 6 – On the fourth of July, the SLSC Race team made the long trek to the Sarnia Yacht Club to kick off its 2007 racing season in the CYA National 23 & Under Championships.  After a hot night spent in tents with 4th of July fireworks blasting off in the distance on the shores of the U.S. mainland,  the team took to the waters in impressive style.  Over the two day regatta, sailed in moderate winds, the crew of Claire DesBrisay and Emily Fleck sailed to a second place overall finish and the CYA Silver Medal; the teams of Amy DesBrisay & Kate Thomas and Kevin Robson & Ellen Lourie also sailed well, placing 4th and 7th overall … resulting in all 3 SLSC crews placing in the top half of the 420 fleet.  The sailors all camped out on the Sarnia grounds, where daytime temperatures were in the 40s and where nights were not much cooler.  The heat was oppressive…coming in from the water felt like entering an oven.  We should have slept in the boats!  A big congratulations to the team members for their impressive results in oppressive heat!  A fine beginning to the competitive season.
