Gerry Giffin is the new CYA President!

This past weekend I represented SLSC at the annual meeting of the Canadian Yachting Association in Kingston. It was a great event for the profile for our club, as Gerry Giffin was elected President for a two year term. Many of you may remember Gerry from the mid 1970’s when Gerry was SLSC’s head instructor for two summers! Some of the instructors who taught along with Gerry include Joan Hopkins, Jamey Stikeman and Duncan Lewis. Gerry started his sailing life as a child at the Shadow Lake Sailing Club and he has been involved in the sailing world ever since, most recently as the President of the Nova Scotia Yachting Association. Gerry brings a host of valuable skills to the Board as well as being well liked and respected by his peers.

We wish Gerry, and the new Board of Directors of CYA much success in their role as leaders of this governing body of sailing in Canada.

  1. I can remember Gerry Giffin being the head instructor, maybe Jamie Stikeman was the head, anyhow, I have strong memories of getting my white sail from Gerry at the end of the summer 1974.

Good ol’ Gerry Giffin, aka, Big Red

  2. SLSC is Shadow Lake Sailing Club.

StLSC should be Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club.

I still have my old loyalties…
